In parallel to this year's SA AIDS Conference in Durban, SABCOHA held two days of Private Sector Capacity Building Sessions. This was made possible with welcome sponsorship from Randwater,

The first day was targeted at Peer Educators. During the morning a highly motivating workshop was conducted by Dr David Dickinson of Wits Business School to address the reality of Multiple Sexual Networks. In the afternoon Goodman Makhanya from Your Debt Helpline spoke about debt and empowered Peer Educators on how know to assist their peers. Nana Pule from Aganang addressed the importance of support for Peer Educators and Susan Preller of SABCOHA spoke briefly about SABCOHA’s planned Peer Educator support programme including telephonic support, the importance of standardised training, mentorship and debriefing.

The second day offered two modules:

  • Nathea Nicolay from Metropolitan covered how organisations can recession-proof their HIV/AIDS Workplace Program through effective Monitoring & Evaluation. Gavin George, Senior Research Fellow from Health Economics & HIV/AIDS Research Division, UKZN, provided a Review of the Cost Impacts and Responses of the Private Sector to HIV/AIDS.
  • Prof Nceba Gqualeni, South African Research Chair: Indigenous Health Care Systems together with Mxolisi Zwane, Trade & Investment KZN, SJ Mhlongo, Chairman, United THP Association and Dr David Dickenson presented on Strengthening the Relationship between Traditional Health Practitioners and the World of Work.
