  • Through SABCOHA and the Pan African Business Coalition, multinationals benefit from the response facilitated across the continent.

 Participation

Because we are a member-driven organisation, all members can vote candidates to the board and participate in sub-committees. Representatives from any member company may be elected as governors. Members have the unique opportunity to develop and participate in projects in the workplace and broader business sector. SABCOHA has a main office in Johannesburg and a presence in Port Elizabeth and Cape Town and is now also active in the Northern Cape.

Networking

Membership to SABCOHA offers unprecedented opportunities to network with leading players in the field of HIV, as well as with colleagues from diverse business environments who are addressing similar challenges in many different ways. Members are invited to attend monthly breakfasts hosted by us. Networking is also facilitated by a more structured and co-ordinated response to HIV/AIDS in the workplace.

SABCOHA hosted its first and highly successful Private Sector Conference on HIV/AIDS in 2006. The conference, which brought a wide range of companies and other stakeholders together, is set to become an annual event. SABCOHA was also a partner in the highly publicised Khomanani Business Excellence Awards and hosts regular Peer Education forums.

Best practice

We offer members access to the latest research and best practice models for workplace programmes. By adopting SABCOHA’s minimum best practice and quality assurance standards, as well as its code of ethics, members can be sure that their programmes meet industry standards.

Lobbying and funding

Being under the umbrella of SABCOHA offers members the opportunity to speak with one voice around HIV/AIDS and to lobby more effectively, therefore, around issues of governance, policy and law. Membership also facilitates the unlocking of funds from donor organisations.

Reduced prices

Members receive various services and resources at reduced prices, including: the SABCOHA Workplace HIV/AIDS Toolkit; attendance at the Annual Private Sector Conference on HIV/AIDS, hosted by SABCOHA; various courses and training programmes offered by our affiliates.

Marketing and media exposure

We can market and promote those member companies providing a quality service. We also profile companies and individuals making a difference in our Case Studies section.

Adopting GRI Priniciples

In adopting the GRI reporting principles (the Global Reporting Initiative’s 11 reporting principles seen as crucial for an organisation to reflect its economic, social and environmental performance in a balanced way), members can show that they comply with reporting standards. SABCOHA can help member companies to implement these guidelines pertaining to their interventions around HIV/AIDS, and, where appropriate, communicate this information to the business community.

More Benefits for Corporates

Maximum exposure

Companies will receive maximum profiling and media exposure for their involvement in HIV/AIDS, particularly around sponsored events and conferences such as: the annual private sector conference on HIV/AIDS; the South African conference on HIV/AIDS; and the International Conference on HIV/AIDS. SABCOHA’s partnership with government provides unique opportunities to highlight the role of corporates, as does its role in sub-regional initiatives, where the role of Unilever and Standard Bank in developing an SMME strategy for Southern Africa, are highlighted, for example.

More reduced prices

Companies that take part in the HIV/AIDS treatment program run by Qualsa (a health risk management company that provides workplace HIV/AIDS programs) will receive a 10 percent discount on fees. Also, given our partnership with Leadership in HIV/AIDS, a quarterly magazine published by Cape Media, members can receive a 15 percent reduction in advertising rates should they decide to advertise in the magazine.
