SABCOHA forms 2010 World Cup task team

SABCOHA held a meeting with stakeholders on the 9th September  to consider the implications of the Fifa 2010 World Cup event in South Africa and a task team was formed to drive the project.

It was agreed that the areas of focus for the SABCOHA 2010 strategy are:

  • Extending the scope of existing projects
  • Project Promote - Extend condom distribution to the Tourism and Leisure Industries
  • Partner with SABMiller (ABI) to extend the reach of Project Promote condom distribution to taverns and bars.
  • Add distribution of IEC Material to the distribution network for condoms
  • Support to member organization Initiatives
  • Motivate members to implement projects aimed at 2010
  • Evaluate projects and where appropriate support and help implement projects
  • Discussions are currently underway with Nike, De Beers, SAPPI and Standard Bank with the potential to expand to MTN, a new member of SABCOHA who is one of the leading sponsors of the 2010 World Cup
  • Partner with existing initiatives (where appropriate, link with already existing soccer initiatives to facilitate the inclusion of an HIV and AIDS prevention program. Discussions have already been held with Show Me Your Number and Grassroots Soccer.)

  • Betty Maropefela, Occupational Health and Wellness Team Leader, Woolworths
  • Julialynne Walker, Project Director: OVC Mapping and Directory,  Population Council
  • MTN / FNB
  • Monica Dea, Sponsor, CDC
  • Dr Liz Floyd, Director: Multi-sectoral AIDS Unit and A.N. Other (GBC)
