CAPE TOWN – Government must sort out problems with the supply of ARVs as soon as possible, the Treatment Action Campaign said on Monday.

Since the beginning of 2012, several provinces have been experiencing a shortage.

Some Limpopo, Free State and KwaZulu-Natal hospitals had to turn away patients.

In May, Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi denied reports.

However, he has now acknowledged that there is a shortage of the life-prolonging drugs at state facilities.

Motsoaledi blamed logistical issues for the ongoing problem.

The TAC's Simonia Mashangoane said the issue must be addressed speedily.

“They [government] need to sort it out very soon. It is very concerning because a whole lot of people need ARVs.”
