At the initiative of BHP Billiton, SABCOHA embarked on a process to consolidate the private sector's response to HIV and AIDS in the Northern Cape. The project sought to identify vulnerable business subsectors and SMMEs in the province to which existing projects and programmes could be aligned or opportunities for expansion in partnership pursued.

The success of this process depends upon the co-operation, knowledge sharing and capacity from big business, government and non-profit organisations operating within the province.

The current Board comprises representation from every municipal district. In addition, each board member elected an alternate. These alternates may act on behalf of the representative whenever necessary.
