BUSINESS SECTOR PLANS FOR 2010 WORLD CUP Following recommendations from the Business Sector Task Team, which was established in September 2009, SABCOHA commissioned a situational analysis to scope HIV prevention social marketing opportunities for the Business Sector before, during and after the 2010 FIFA Soccer World CupTM. The preliminary findings highlighting the provisions, prohibitions and potential opportunities were presented to the Task Team at the end of November and the final report will be available on the SABCOHA website on Monday, 8 February 2010. Driven by President Jacob Zuma's Call to Action on World AIDS Day last year, in which he exhorted that "prevention is our most powerful weapon against the epidemic and all South Africans should take steps to not become infected, not infect others, and they should know their status", SABCOHA is positioning its initiatives to contribute to the Call before, during and after the World CupTM. Kai Crooks-Chissano has been appointed as the SABCOHA 2010 World Cup Project Manager effective 1 February 2010. Her first priority is to develop and submit a project plan and budget to the CDC based on the recommendations of the situational analysis and subsequent consultations with stakeholders. With ongoing work with the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC), consultation with the Task Team and regular feedback to members, we are planning on success. Moreover, SANAC has been tasked by Cabinet to coordinate, oversee and monitor the response to HIV, and is the coordinating body for HIV prevention activities for the World CupTM. All organizations are asked to liaise with SANAC about their HIV messaging for the WC, because amongst other things, SANAC will provide branding support for crafting and finalizing HIV messaging with the aim of building on the World AIDS Day theme of taking responsibility: "I am responsible, We are responsible, South Africa is taking responsibility". SABCOHA is a member of the SANAC Sports and Recreation Task Team coordinating the various sector activities for the World Cup.
